Jennifer Schwade received her Ph.D in Child Psychology from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota in 1999. She then did post-doctoral training in Linda Smith’s cognitive development laboratory at Indiana University. She was an visiting professor and research associate at Franklin and Marshall College from 2001 - 2004. Jennifer is now a Research Associate in the Department of Psychology at Cornell University.

Post-docs

Heidi Waterfall received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from University of Chicago in 2006. There, she collaborated with Janellen Huttenlocher and Marina Vasilyeva on numerous longitudinal studies of parent-infant dyads. Her dissertation examined the role of variation sets in language acquisition–clusters of partial repetitions in speech addressed to very young children (e.g. Want to get your ball? Get your ball? Do you want to get your ball?). Her results indicate that variation sets are strongly related to the nouns, verbs and verb-frames that children produce at the same observation and are strongly related to children’s verbs and verb-frames four months later. She is currently conducting post-doctoral research with Michael Goldstein, Jennifer Schwade and Shimon Edelman at Cornell University. Her projects at Cornell continue to explore variation sets, using artificial language experiments with adults, noun- and verb-learning studies with children and computer modeling.
